About Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSKUS)

MSKUS is a  powerful and painless tool used to provide real-time static or dynamic images of muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and cartilage throughout the body.

How we do it

In contrast with X-Rays, CT  and MRI, MSKUS is quick and does not involve radiation, can be done in the office at the moment of your visit and the results are explained to you by Dr. Galvez immediately after he finishes the evaluation.

Dr Galvez performs all his procedures (injections) under Ultrasound Guidance. He has vast experience in musculoskeletal ultrasound, and has the RMSK (Registered in Musculoskeletal Sonography) certification. It is a professional certification offered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) to professionals who specialize in musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.

What are the benefits of MSKUS?

  • Live Visualization: It allows real-time imaging of muscles, tendons, and joints while they are in motion. This dynamic view can aid in diagnosing injuries and assessing function.

  • Painless and Non-Invasive: Unlike some other imaging techniques, musculoskeletal ultrasound is painless. It uses sound waves to create images, making it safe and non-invasive.

  • Low-Cost: Musculoskeletal ultrasound is generally more affordable than other imaging modalities like MRI or CT scans.

  • No Radiation Exposure: Since it doesn’t use ionizing radiation, there’s no risk associated with exposure.

  • Aids in treatment: It can be used alongside minimally invasive procedures (such as guided injections) to improve accuracy.

  • Better Visualization of Tendons: Ultrasound provides excellent visualization of tendons, which can be crucial for diagnosing conditions like tendinosis or tears

What conditions can MSKUS treat?

  • Tendon injuries

  • Ligament injuries

  • Tennis and Golfer’s elbow

  • Achilles injuries

  • Rotator cuff injuries

  • Frozen shoulder / adhesive capsulitis

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Hamstring injuries/strains

  • Carpal tunnel sd

  • Slows down osteoarthritis progression, commonly use in shoulder, hips and knee

“I have never gone to a musculoskeletal medicine Dr before. I found Dr Galvez to be very professional, and made me feel very comfortable. He spoke to me in layman’s term, which was very helpful. He gave me several medical options for my arthritis in my knees. The office was friendly and worked with me on scheduling my appointments. I highly recommend Dr Galvez”.
